Heuchera like well-drained soil that is rich in humus and feels soft and crumbly. It may be necessary to amend the soil by adding in compost or rotted manure.
Plant where there is soft shade, although some of the darker-leafed varieties can tolerate a range of full shade to full sun.
Heuchera often need extra protection in northern gardens to survive the winter.
